Tropical Adventures was founded from a passion for tourism that benefits conservation, a love of biodiversity, and a desire to share the best tours of the African tropical realm. The tropics contain the highest amount of life on Earth, but this is also the most threatened area from habitat loss and over-harvesting. The tropics will benefit the most from sustainable tourism. Where We Work
We focus our conservation-based safari adventures in the biodiversity hot spots within the Cameroonian Congo Basin Rainforest. Cameroon’s 22 million hectares of tropical forests are a vital part of the Congo Basin Forest ecosystem.
Cameroons is among the six countries that constitutes the Congo basin. Cameroons rich biodiversity earned it the nickname “Africa in miniature.” Cameroon has often been called “Africa in miniature” for how much it mirrors the continent’s diversity. Cameroon boasts a coastline, mountains, savanna, desert, and tropical rainforests.
These forests provide a source of livelihoods for communities and habitat for over 9,000 plant species, about 900 bird species, and roughly 320 mammals — including the critically endangered western lowland gorilla and the endangered chimpanzee. The northern province in Cameroon, Bénoué, hosts the largest hippo population in the entire West-Central region of Africa.
The Congo Basin spans across six countries. Cameroon, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. The Congo basin forest covers 3.3 million km2
The Congo Basin’s rainforests are the second largest in the world after the Amazon and serves as the lungs of Africa.
The Congo Basin distinguish themselves by their outstanding biodiversity and high level of endemism. It’s an incredibly rich and diverse ecosystem that provides food, freshwater, shelter and medicine for tens of millions of local and Indigenous Peoples and is home to critically endangered wildlife species.
